Am I Doing This Right? 5 Signs You’re Actually Winning in Sales (Even If It Doesn’t Feel Like It)
Question:
"I’m putting in the work, but how do I know if I’m actually on the right track?"
Answer:
One of the toughest parts of being a new rep is the constant question: "Am I even doing this right?"
Even seasoned salespeople question it—especially when what worked before isn’t working today.
What you gotta’ know though is that sales success isn’t linear. It’s full of no’s, uncertainty, mistakes, and self-doubt.
👉 This doesn’t mean you’re failing. It’s all part of the journey.
So, if you’re experiencing any of these five things, I’m here to tell you - you’re on the right track:
5 Signs You’re Doing It Right:
1️⃣ You get ghosted. ➡️ That means you actually followed up. SCORE!
2️⃣ You lose a job you were promised. ➡️ I don't know one successful salesperson (including me) that this hasn't happened to. It's part of the journey. SCORE!
3️⃣ You wonder if you’re not professional enough. ➡️ Not professional enough, smart enough, too young, too old - that’s just your brain “braining”! Great news - your brain is doing what human brains do. SCORE!
4️⃣ You make a huge mistake on a bid. ➡️ Well look at you actually doing a bid! Congratulations 🎉 Mistakes are necessary to learn and everyone has made them. I made a $200k mistake in my first year being a sales/estimator. SCORE!
5️⃣ You worry about hitting your sales goal. ➡️ This means you actually care. And caring about your goals is a sure sign that YOU my friend, are doing it right. SCORE!
Final Thought:
These struggles are all normal and part of the path to subcontractor sales success.
Keep showing up. Keep caring. Keep learning, developing yourself and growing!
Don’t let any of these things slow you down.
Because the real winners in sales (and life) aren't the ones who never struggle - they're the ones who never quit on what matters most to them. You got this.
